Festive atmosphere prevails in Rangpur marking countdown of Mujib Year

RANGPUR, Jan 10, 2020 (BSS) – Rangpur city turned jubilant with festive atmosphere all-around with the launching of the countdown of the (Mujib Year) in a function held on the Town Hall premises in the city this afternoon.

The district administration organised the function and screened
inauguration of the countdown event by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the National Parade Square marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.

Rangpur City Corporation extended assistance to the district administration
in setting up of the digital board for screening the countdown function of
the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including students, teachers,
youths, government officials and employees, political leaders and workers,
NGO representatives, civil society members, professionals, journalists and
local elite attended the function.

They witnessed the documentary films screened from the National Parade
Square on the huge digital board on the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu,
attentively listened to the speech of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and
inauguration of the countdown by her.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam, Deputy Inspector General for
Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police
Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General)
Md. Zakir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Police Super Biplob
Kumar Sarker and high officials were present.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, District Council Chairman
Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation
Ruhul Amin Mian and Rangpur Sadar upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby attended
the function.

President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General
Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman
Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, Joint General Secretary of
district AL Rosy Rahman and Organizing Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul,
General Secretary of district Mohila Awami League Advocate Zakia Sultana
Choite, leaders and workers of different associate bodies of AL and other
political parties attended the function.

Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration will start on March 17 this year
and continue till March 17, 2021.

Later, students of different educational institutions and artists of
different cultural organizations performed in a colourful cultural event on
the same venue marking the countdown function of birth centenary of
Bangabandhu.

Earlier, the high ranking government officials, leaders of AL and its
associate bodies and different organisations placed wreaths at the Mural of
Bangabandhu on the Bangabandhu Square in the city in the afternoon.

The Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the Mujib Corner at Rangpur Museum at
Tajhat Jamidar Bari in the city as per guidelines of the Ministry of Cultural
Affairs marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu in the morning.

The upazila administrations also arranged colourful functions and screened
the launching of the countdown programme of the birth centenary of
Bangabandhu by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her speech at all eight
upazila headquarters in the district.

Ananda rallies and cultural functions will be arranged at all eight upazila
headquarters tomorrow (January 11) in the district where diversified
colourful programs will be arranged daily during the year-long birth
centenary celebrations.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Asib Ahsan said elaborate
programmes have been taken for the year-long celebration of the birth
centenary of Bangabandhu in the Mujib Year in the district from March 17
next.

“Adequate steps were taken today to enable people from all walks in life at
the union, upazila and district levels to enjoy the historical countdown
event across the district in a hassle-free manner,” he added.
