DU rape victim discharged from hospital

DHAKA, Jan 9, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) student, who was raped
and tortured in city’s Kurmitola area on Sunday, was released from hospital
today.

After being discharged from One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Dhaka Medical
College Hospital (DMCH), she left for home at around 12 noon, confirmed
Director General of DMCH Brigadier General Nasir Uddin.

The medical board, which was formed for her treatment, has decided to
release her on Thursday after reviewing her condition, said Nasir Uddin.

“The girl has overcome the trauma and other problems and is feeling much
better now. We told the girl to come to the hospital if she feels ill or
faces any problem. She will get complete support from here,” he added.

Nasir Uddin said the victim’s father thanked all concerned including Dhaka
University authority, DMCH authority, police, RAB and journalists for their
cooperation and support.

Earlier on January 5, the victim, a second year student of DU, was raped by
a serial rapist at a secluded place as she got off from a bus in Kurmitola
area in the capital. The girl left the campus on board a university bus and
was heading for her friend’s house at Khilkhet’s Shewra neighbourhood.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the alleged rapist Mojnu on January
8, based on the description given by the victim and by tracking her mobile
phone which was snatched by the rapist.
