“Mujib Year” countdown preparations complete in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Jan 9, 2020 (BSS) – All-out preparations have been completed
here to launch the countdown ceremony of ‘Mujib Year’ marking the birth
centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on
January 10.

On this occasion, the high altitude digital devices had already been
installed at important and visible places of the district and upazila towns
at the arrangement of the district and upazila administrations.

The digital devices would start countdown work of ‘Mujib Year’ after its
inauguration. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian would formally inaugurate the
digital devices simultaneously in Dhaka with other cities and towns across
the country on January 10, office sources said.

Earlier, a preparatory meeting to celebrate the launching ceremony of
the countdown of ‘Mujib Year’ was held at the conference room of deputy
commissioner (DC) office of the town here on Monday last.

DC Abdul Matin presided over the meeting while additional DC-General
Alamgir Kabir Saikat moderated the function.

After elaborate discussion, a series of programmes have been chalked out
marking the launching ceremony of the countdown work.

The programmes include press conference, placing floral wreaths at the
portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, rally, screening Bangabandhu’s
historical 7th March speech and cultural function on the premises of Central
Shaheed Minar of the town here on January 10.

DC Abdul Matin said January 10, 1972 is very significant for beginning
the countdown as it marks the historical Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day across
the country.

On this day, Bangabandhu returned to an independent and sovereign
Bangladesh after spending nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistan
jail; the said adding that Bangabandhu was flown in by a British Royal Force
aircraft, which landed at the old airport at Tejgaon in Dhaka.

Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebrations, officially termed Mujib
Borsho, will start on his birthday, March 17, and will continue till March
26, 2021, which marks the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence Day,
the DC mentioned.

The DC also sought whole hearted cooperation of all to participate in
the programmes spontaneously and make it a grand success.

All the district level officials, political leaders, freedom fighters,
NGO representatives, leaders of socio-cultural organizations, members of law
enforcing agencies including senior journalists took part in the function.
