Inter-city train services, rail-routes increase in last year: Sujon

DHAKA, Jan 07, 2020 (BSS) – Mentioning remarkable initiatives taken to
enhance county’s railway sector during the tenures of Awami League
government, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon today said a total of eight
inter-city train services and three new routes were added to the sector in
the last year.

“Eight inter-city train-services have increased while three new rail-
routes introduced in the last year under the ruling government of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

He came up with the information addressing a meeting at the auditorium of
Rail-Bhaban in the city marking the one year celebration of progress of rail
of the current government.

A total of 1,144 persons were recruited at deferent posts in the railway
sector in last year, he said, adding that the train service between
Bangladesh and neighbouring India has also increased.

Describing the special activities of the railway ministry, he further said
‘Rail-Seba’-an official application of Bangladesh railway was introduced on
April 28, 2019, adding that 50 percent rail tickets are now being sold
through online to prevent ‘Black-Ticket’ marketing.

The government created about 401.22 kilometres (Km) new rail-line so far
since 2009, he informed in the meeting.

Besides, a total of 259.57 acres of land in the country (154.22 acres of
eastern land and 115.35 acres of western land) were recovered from the land-
grabbers for the betterment of the rail sector, the minister added.
