Staging time-befitting dramas stressed to eliminate social curses

RANGPUR, Dec 31, 2019 (BSS) – Theatre personalities at a discussion today called for staging time-befitting dramas to eliminate social curses along with entertaining common people with healthier culture.

They made the observation in the discussion organised by ‘Rangpur Padatik’, a traditional drama institution of the city, to celebrate its 38th founding anniversary on the Town Hall Square in the city.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag and organisation flag amid rendering of the national anthem in front of ‘Rangpur Padatik’ office on the Town Hall square.

A five-day ‘Street drama festival’ from December 31 to January 4 next was also launched on the occasion.

Later, a colourful rally was brought out in the city streets with participation of members of ‘Rangpur Padatik’, dramatists, drama artistes and cultural personalities, activists and leaders of different drama organisations.

Earlier, President of ‘Rangpur Padatik’ Bijoy Prasad Tapu presided over the discussion. Chief Secretary of ‘Rangpur Padatik’ GM Nazu gave the welcome speech.

General Secretary of ‘Rangpur Nattya Chakra’ Hasan Ali, President of cultural organisation ‘Sound Touch’ Majedur Rahman Jhantu and founding President of ‘Uttaron’ Shahidul Islam Hira addressed.

Artists of different cultural organisations recited poems, rendered songs and staged drama in the cultural evening jointly moderated by General Secretary of ‘Rangpur Padatik’ SB Suman, theatre personalities Nasir Uddin Suman and Pretty Roy.

The speakers put importance on writing and staging time-befitting dramas to inspire common people in eliminating social curses, superstations, violence, militancy and communalism to further accelerate development.
