DU set to mark 49th Victory Day

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) authorities has taken all-out preparation to celebrate the 49th victory day tomorrow in a befitting manner.

The programmes included hoisting of national flag, placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar, film and documentary exhibition, photo exhibition and cultural programmes, said a press release.

The national flag will be hoisted atop on the main buildings of the university around 6:15 am.

University teachers, students, officers and employees will gather on the premises of Aparajeya Bangla to pay tribute to Liberation War martyrs at the National Memorial at Savar in the morning.

Like previous years, Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) will organise a photo exhibition titled “Sahoser Joy” (Victory of bravery), at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) on the campus.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman will inaugurate the exhibition.

Slogan 71, a TSC-based cultural student organization, will hold a dazzling fireworks display-in front of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture-in the early hours of Victory Day.

Besides, a musical programme organised by the university authorities and Chhayanaut Cultural Center will be held at central playground of the university at 4pm. A cultural programme on Victory Day will be held at TSC at 6:30 pm.

The university campus has already been decorated with colorful lights including the arts building, TSC, Curzon Hall and Bijoy Ekattor Hall.

Special prayers will be offered after the Zohr prayers at the central mosque of the university along with other mosques and other places of worship, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for achieving independence.
