Gazipur Factory fire claims 10 lives, two bodies identified

GAZIPUR, Dec 15, 2019 (BSS) – At least 10 workers were burnt to death and 15 others injured in a fire that broke out in a fan factory in Gazipur this evening.

Among the deceased, two workers have been identified as Uttam, 24, and Rashed, 32, while another worker Parvez has been confirmed dead, but his body is yet to be identified as the body was charred, Gazipur Fire Station Officer Jakaria told BSS.

However, identities of the remaining workers are yet to be known, he said.

Being informed, a total of four units of fire-fighters rushed to the ‘Luxury Fan Factory’, a 3-storey tin-shed building located in Harinal area of Gazipur where the fire broke out around 5:45pm, said Mamunur Rashid, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Following one and half hours relentless effort, the fire-fighters brought the blaze under control around 7.15pm and recovered the charred bodies of the workers from the factory, he added.

The origin of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The injured are being given treatment at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.
