Sylhet Thunder’s losing streak continues in BBPL
DHAKA, Dec 14, 2019 (BSS)-Sylhet Thunder put up yet another dismal show to concede their third straight defeat in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) when they suffered a 24-run loss to Dhaka Platoon at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here today.
Being sent to bat first, Dhaka Platoon compiled 182-4, the season’s highest total so far thanks to a brilliant half-century from opener Anamul Haque Bijoy. Sylhet made a rapid start to the chase but couldn’t continue on it which saw them to be restricted to 158-7.
Anamul Haqu Bijoy and Tamim Iqbal however gave the side a platform of big total, sharing 85-run for the opening stand. Sylhet captain Mosaddek Hossain broke the partnership finally by removing Tamim for 31. Tamim’s 28-ball knock included five boundaries.
After hitting eight fours and one six in his 42 ball-62, Anamul also returned to dressing room when pace bowler Delwar Hossain got the better of him.
The dismissal of two openers in quick succession didn’t dent the mood in Dhaka tent as youngster Jaker Ali Anik kept the flow, with 12 ball-20, studded with two sixes.
Nayeem Hasan for a while stalled Dhaka’s progress by dismissing Jaker before Thisara Perera and Wahab Riaz came up with lusty blow in the death overs to push Dhaka’s innings past 180.
Perera’s 11 ball-22 not out included one four and two sixes while Wahab Riaz struck two sixes in his 7 ball-17 not out.
Despite losing Andre Fletcher in just second over for 10, Sylhet made a whirlwind start as the scoreboard read 47 in just three overs. Johnson Charles and Rony Talukdar were key in manic start but one shot too many caused the dismissal of Rony for 14 before Charles who made 8 ball-19 was trapped in run out.
Dhaka’s young pacer Hasan Mahmud worsened Sylhet’s situation further by taking out Shafiqullah for 2.
Sylhet indeed forced to loss three wickets in 11 balls for 5 runs and their hope was virtually ended at that point.
Mashrafe came back his second spell to get rid of Mithun for 8 and indicted to wrap up Sylhet. However captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat stood tall and helped the side play full 20 overs. He remained unbeaten on 60 off 44, hitting six fours and two sixes.
Dhaka captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and young pacer Hasan Mahmud snapped up two wickets apiece.
