Mahmudullah happy to grab victory on comeback match

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2019 (BSS)-Chattogram Challengers captain Mahmudullah Riyad lamented for being dismissed before taking his side to the home against Rangpur Rangers but he was overall happy to secure a victory in his first match in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).

Mahmudullah couldn’t take part in the first two matches of the side in this tournament as he was not declared fit from his hamstring injury which he sustained during the pink-ball Test against India in Kolkata.

On his comeback match, he took the captaincy from Imrul Kayes and saw the side registering a six-wicket win over Rangpur Rangers. Mahmudullah himself contributed 15 runs and was dismissed when his side was 19 runs away to win the game.

“Personally I was very disappointed since I wanted to finish off the match along with Imrul Kayes. Unfortunately I was dismissed against the delivery in which I had the chance to score runs,” Mahmudullah said here today after the match.

“I wanted to take the field after getting hundred percent well. However everyone plays well and we have performed as a team which I wanted. So it’s really a nice feeling.”

It was Chattogram’s second victory in third match, which Mahmudullah said a good sign. Since Chattogram will play some more matches at their home Chattogram in the coming 10 days, Mahmudullah expected that his side would gain the momentum by winning some more matches. The Chattogram phase of BBPL would start on December 17 after two days gap.

“We have won two matches, which is encouraging because it would give us the confidence before going to Chattogram venue,” he said.

“Chattogram’s wicket remains good always and so we will try to keep up the winning spree. T20 is such game that if you loss the momentum, it will be tougher for you to get back into the groove again. So we will try to play well and keep the momentum going,” he added.

“We played well as a team. Our batsmen have been giving us good start while the bowlers bowled really well, specially in death overs,” he remarked.
