Int’l Confce on financing for sustainable development begins Dec 10

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2019 (BSS) – The three-day International Conference titled “The Asia Pacific Conference on Financing for Inclusive and Sustainable Development” will begin in the capital on December 10 in a bid to find ways to scale up investment and international development cooperation to finance the 2030 Agenda.

International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh (ICC Bangladesh) is organizing conference with the help of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Asian Development Bank (ADB)- Trade Finance Programme (TFP) and the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) under the patronage of the Ministry of Finance at InterContinental Hotel from December 10-12 celebrating 100 years of International Chamber of Commerce globally as well as 25 years of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh.

President M Abdul Hamid expected to remain present at the opening ceremony of the Conference as the chief guest on the occasion, said a press release.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, and PM’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman will also attend the inaugural session as the special guests.

This was disclosed at a press conference held at the DDCI auditorium in the city. ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, DCCI President Usama Taseer and Journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul were present.

The main objective of the conference will be to discuss on how to scale up investment and international development cooperation and adequately finance the 2030 agenda for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will join the conference through video conferencing in the inaugural session.

Moreover, around 100 delegates from 30 countries including Australia, Bhutan, Brunei, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Philippine, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and USA will be attending the conference.

Besides, about 400 delegates comprising business leaders, bankers and experts from Bangladesh will also be attending this 3-day Conference.
