Health experts for planned family to accelerate national development

RANGPUR, Dec 7, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts at a launching function
today laid emphasis on inevitability of building planned family and
preventing adolescent pregnancy to accelerate national development.

They put importance on reaching family planning services to every
doorstep and able couple for containing population growth rate to build a
healthier nation.

They expressed the opinion at a function held on the Rangpur Maternity
and Child Welfare Centre (MCWC) office premises in the city to launch the
Family Welfare Service and Publicity Week- 2019 from December 7 to 12 in the
district.

The week is being observed to spread the concept of smaller family,
nutrition, risks of adolescent pregnancy, safe motherhood and delivery and
popularising methods for family planning to reduce maternal and neonatal
deaths.

The District Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the function
with Deputy Director of the District FPD Dr. Sheikh Md. Saidul Islam in the
chair.

Rangpur District Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom inaugurated
observance of the week as the chief guest.

Rangpur Divisional Director of the DFP Md. Mahbub Alam and its Assistant
Director Mozammel Haque were present as special guests.

Rangpur Regional Consultant of the DFP Dr. Ahmed Munaf Chowdhury,
Director of Rangpur MCWC Dr. Mohtarima Begum Ratna, also spoke.

Dr. Saidul Islam narrated the risks of adolescent pregnancy and
achievement in popularising different family planning methods like short,
medium and long- term and long acting permanent methods among the able
couples of the district.

The chief guest said Bangladesh has achieved massive development and
urged all able couples to adopt family planning methods to ensure safe
motherhood so that every citizen could reap the fruits of development.

Mahbub Alam called for disseminating the important message of “not more
than two children, but one is better”, among all able couples to make the
population control programme a success and achieve the SDGs timely.
