Conference on genocide-torture held in city
DHAKA, Nov 22, 2019 (BSS) – With the aim of making the memories of the 1971 Liberation War victims immortal, the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set up the Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum in the country.
This was stated by State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid while addressing as the chief guest the 3rd International Conference on ‘Genocide of 1971, Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh and Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ jointly arranged by 1971:Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum and Bangladesh Itihas Sammilani at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy.
Chairman of 1971:Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum Trust Dr. Muntassir Mamoon presided over the conference while Justice Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik presented a keynote paper on the topic.
The welcome speech was delivered by Convener of International Conference Organizing Committee Hashem Khan.
Khalid said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to implement the unfinished works of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He said the birth centenary of Bangabandhu will be celebrated nationally.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a national committee has been formed for this purpose and next year will be celebrated as the Mujib Year, he added.
He praised the activities of the genocide museum and said, Sheikh Hasina led the fight against the ill-politics that began after the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members in 1975.
During the two-day conference, 34 researchers from seven countries will present articles.
At the conference, journalist and Human rights activist Shahriar Kabir handed over mementos to the guests.
Some objects signifying the great War of Liberation were received on the occasion.
