Leonine Chess Club emerges unbeaten champion

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – Leonine Chess Club emerged unbeaten champion in the MARCEL Air Conditioner 1st Division Chess League which concluded on Wednesday at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room.

Leonine Chess Club secured maximum 18 points in the last round games to clinch the title and promoted to the next year’s premier division chess league along with runners-up Shahin Chess Club which finished runners-up with 14 points.

Shahin Chess Club beat Debdas Biswas Smirity Sangsad by 2.5-1.5 game points.

In the day’s 9th or last round games were held today (Wednesday), Leonine Chess Club beat Mir Chess Club by 3.5-0.5 game points.

Dhaka Knight’s Chess Club were placed at 3rd with 13 points while Khelaghar Daba Sangah of Gopalgan became 4th with 12 points.

Others positions are: 5th-Basir Memorial Chess Club, points-9, 6th-Mir Chess Club, points-7, 7th-Agrani Bank Limited Daba Dal, points-5, 8th-Kasparov Chess Club, points-5, 9th-Debdas Biswas Smirity Sangsad, points-4 and 10th-Legend Faraz Ayaiz Chess Team, points-3.

In the day’s last round games, Dhaka Knight’s beat Kasparov Chess by 3-1 game points, Khelaghar Daba Sangah of Gopalganj by 3-1 game points, Agrani Bank beat Basir Memorial by 3.5-0.5 game points.

Champion Leonine Chess Club and runners-Up Shahin Chess Club will participate in the next year’s Premier Division Chess League.

The prize distribution and closing ceremony will be held on tomorrow (Wednesday) at same venue.

FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), executive director and head of games and Welfare of WALTON Group, will be the chief guest and distribute the prizes.

Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) vice president KM Shahidullah, BCF general secretary Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim will be present as special guests.

BCF vice president and chairman of Chess League Committee Gazi Shayiful Tarique will preside over the prize distribution ceremony.
