Info ministry to gear up awareness against cancer: Murad
DHAKA, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – With deadly disease cancer increasing across the country, focus should be made both on setting up more cancer centres and gearing up anti-cancer campaign to cope with the deadly menace.
Such notion was identically vented by State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan and health experts here today.
In his speech, Murad said the information ministry will evolve plans to effectively create awareness against cancer among the people.
“My ministry would work for building awareness against cancer among people of the country with the help of district and upazila level information officers,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organised by Notre Dame College at its auditorium with the support of Beacon Pharmaceuticals Limited marking ‘November-lung cancer awareness month’ in city’s Motijheel area.
Consultant of Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital Dr Qamruzzaman Chowdhury presented the key-note paper at the seminar.
Major General Professor Dr M Azizul Islam was the special guest while Principal of Notre Dame College Dr Father Hemonto Pius Rozario was present.
Murad, also a former student of the college, said, “The students would build a digital Bangladesh and ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”.
Emphasizing on building more cancer centers in the country, Dr Quamruzzaman said, “The best way to reduce the risk of lung cancer is not to smoke”.
If a person stop smoking before developing cancer, damaged lung tissues gradually start to repair by itself, he said.
