Doming missing third seamer after Rahi’s effort go in vain

INDORE, Nov 15, 2019 (BSS)- In an Indore pitch, which offers everything
for a fast bowler who has control on his line and length, Bangladesh head
coach Russell Domingo missed the necessity of a third seamer.

Bangladeshi pacers duo Abu Jayed Rahi and Ebadot Hossain shared five
wickets of the fallen six wickets of India with the former keeping the
pressure intriguing way to be rewarded with 4-108.

At the other end, Ebadot though couldn’t keep the things right and tight,
he was actually better than the spinners who leaked runs in abundance and
hardly got any assistance for the pitch.

Domingo though a third pace bowler could come up as a help of Rahi and
Ebadot and could resist India from batting them out from the game.

“The structure of the team needs to change. It is very hard to play with
two seamers,” Doming said after day two, when India stretched their lead to
343, ending the day on 493-6 in reply of Bangladesh’s 150.

“We definitely need to find a third bowling seamer who can bat. There’s
Saifuddin, but he is struggling with injuries. But the structure of the team
needs attention. I think a lot of teams that play against Bangladesh will
prepare good wickets, which won’t spin much. We need to find a seamer who can
do a No 7 or 8 job for us with the bat,” he added.

At the same time, he informed that three seamers theory didn’t work for
Bangladesh in the past.

“Hindsight is a great thing. We definitely considered playing three
seamers but that leaves us very light with the batting line-up. We probably
should have played three seamers but it hasn’t worked out for us,” he said.

The necessity of a third seamer was felt when Abu Jayed Rahi dismissed two
key India batsmen– Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli– in his consecutive
overs, leave India in pressurized 119-3. After bowling so many overs in the
morning session, he needs some rest. As Ebadot Hossain couldn’t do the things
right, a third seamer is believed to be handy.

“It was a tough day. Full credit goesto India. They have absolutely
dominated us in the last two days. Still three days to go. It is a very tough
situation, but it provides a great opportunity for somebody to jump out of
the box. There are so many guys who are averaging 20 or 30. We need somebody
to make that big 100, 150, 200 like Mayank did today. So it is a great
opportunity for our batters to do that in the second innings,” he said.
