Dredging to be done in transparent way: Khalid
DHAKA, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) –Terming dredging of waterways as a major challenge, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said dredging should be done cautiously as people are evincing interests to see the rivers navigable.
He echoed the directive of the Prime Minister that the dredging work has to be done carefully and in a transparent way, and ensuring that the same contractor does not get the work order repeatedly.
The state minister was speaking at a review meeting on the progress of implementation of the projects under the ministry of shipping.
In the financial year 2019-20, the ministry of shipping is implementing 49 projects at a cost of Tk.4,713 crore 13 lakh.
Of the projects, forty projects are under ADP and nine projects will be implemented under the ministry’s own finance.
A total of 3013 crore 44 lakh has been allocated for the projects under ADP and 1699 crore 87 lakh for the ministry’s own fund.
High officials of the ministry including the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md. Abdus Samad, attended the meeting.
The ministry of shipping and the organizations under this ministry are planning to complete 10 projects in the financial year 2019-20.
