Montu, Khasru new president, gen secy of Sramik League

DHAKA, Nov 9, 2019 (BSS) – Fazlul Haque Montu and Azam Khasru have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the central committee of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League, the labour wing of the Awami League (AL).

Molla Abul Kalam Azad has been elected executive president of the committee.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today announced the names of the president, general secretary and executive president of the new committee after the council session of Jatiya Sramik League held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium here this afternoon.

AL Presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Abdul Matin Khasru, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Information Minister and AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Organizing Secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain, AL leader Mirja Azam, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were present at the council session, among others.

Earlier, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 13th national council of the Sramik League at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city this morning.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian and country director of International Labour Organization (ILO) Tuomo Johannes Poutiainen addressed the council.

More than 8,000 councilors along with equal number of delegates from 78 district level organizations across the country with the JSL’s central committee leaders joined the conference.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the JSL, the country’s largest labour organization, on October 11 in 1969.
