River bank protection work begins at four points in Fulchhari upazila

GAIBANDHA, June 01, 2018 (BSS) – The much awaited river bank protection
work along the Jamuna River from Baguria to Gano Kabor under Fulchhari
upazila in the district began today.

Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) is implementing the work at a
cost of TK 295.50 crore while Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd of
Bangladesh Navy will construct the development work at four points of the
upazila, office sources said.

The aim of the work is to protect the vulnerable areas of the upazila
from the devastating erosion side by side with saving the homesteads and the
arable land, sources said.

Deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle
Rabbi Miah inaugurated the development work at Gano Kabor, Singria,
Balashighat and Baguria points of the upazila through unveiling the plaques
as the chief guest.

Commodore of Bangladesh Navy Sheikh Arif Mohammad, deputy commissioner
Gautam Chandra Pal, executive engineer of BWDB Mahbubur Rahman, upazila
chairman Habibur Rahman, UNO Abdul Halim Tolstoy and local union parishad
chairmen, public representatives, and political leaders including journalists
were present on the occasion.

The people from all walks of life of the upazila expressed their
gratefulness to the government and deep satisfaction for starting the
development work at four points along the right bank of the river under the
upazila.
