RANGPUR, Nov 03, 2019 (BSS) – Leaders of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies have said killers of four national leaders at Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975 after assassination of Bangabandhu wanted to reverse the spirit of national independence.

They were addressing a discussion arranged at district AL office in Betpotti area of the city this evening in observance of the Jail Killing Day.

The district and city units of AL, its associate bodies chalked out programs marking the day to pay homage to the four national leaders.

The programs included hoisting of national and party flags at half-mast, wearing black badges, placing of floral wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, milad and doa mahfils and discussions.

With Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed in the chair, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju delivered keynote speech.

Vice-president of district AL Joynal Abedin, its Joint General Secretary Mazed Ali Babul, Organising Secretary Advocate Anwarul Islam, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Publicity Secretary Rosy Rahman and Women Affairs’ Secretary Latifa Shawkat addressed.

The city unit of AL also organised a discussion at its office with its President Shafiur Rahman Shafi in the chair while its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed it as keynote speaker.

The speakers said killing of four national leaders was the continuation of a deep-rooted conspiracy since assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members to wipe out AL and the nationhood.

They demanded for ensuring exemplary punishments to absconding killers of Bangabandhu and four national leaders at the earliest.

Advocate Raju said the killers wanted to destroy AL through killing of four national leaders after assassination of Bangabandhu without understanding that Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are inseparable.

“The leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies should work unitedly to build a middle income nation by 2021 and a developed country by 2041 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to realise the dream of Bangabandhu,” Raju added.

Mamtaz said everyone should remain alert as enemies of the nation are still hatching conspiracies against the country to hinder ongoing massive developments.
