Terengganu win Sheikh Kamal Int’l Club Cup title

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – Terengganu FC of Malaysia won the crown of 3rd edition of prestigious Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament beating host Chattogram Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in the keenly contested final held on Thursday at MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram.

It was the second occasion Chattogram Abahani failed to lift the title after being eliminated from the semifinals last time.

It was an entertaining final in the evening in front of the jump-packed stadium as both the teams launched attacks and counter attacks, a full-house crowd came to cheer for the home team, but the host side failed to fulfill their expectation again.

In the day’s match, Terengganu FC launched series of attacks in the beginning of the match and got the result in the 15th minute as defender Hairiey Hakim Bin Mamat’s brilliant header off a corner kick from skipper Lee Tuck from left flank went straight to the net giving no chance to react to Abahani’s custodian Nehal under the bar.

Defender Azalinullah Alias doubled the lead for the Malaysian side in the 20th minute with a perfect angular shot after dodging past an opponent defender from the close range.

Terengganu FC deprived from another certain goal as danger man Lee Tuck’s powerful short from top of the D-box went harmlessly over the cross bar.

After the resumption, Chattogram Abahani’s fight back in the match with more organized way and got the immediate reward as forward Luka Rotkovic powerful shot from inside the danger zone found the net giving no chance to Terengganu custodian Kazali under the bar in the 48th minute.

Luka missed two scoring chances in the 70th and 80th minutes. His first attempt from inside the danger zone after dodging past a Terengganu defender went out of play beside the side bar and in the second time he also failed to score from close range.

Terengganu FC dominated the proceeding, especially in the first half, and notched their deserving victory, while Chattogram Abahani Limited were totally off-colored in the first half but in the second half they created some scoring chances but failed to convert any of those into a goal.

The port city team Chattogram Abahani twice fought back to beat Sree Gokulam Kerala 3-2 in an entertaining first semifinal to booked their spot of final while English recruit midfielder Lee Andrew Tuck slammed second hat-trick in the tournament as Terengganu FC knocked Mohun Bagan Athletics Club of India out by 4-2 goals in the second semifinal to get the ticket of final.
