District-wise budgetary allocation for children from next fiscal: Azad

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Office’s Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) Md Abul Kalam Azad today said the government will give separate budgetary allocation for children of every district in the next fiscal year.

“In the past there was no district-wise allocation for children. Now there will be separate allocation for children of every district in the budget,” he said.

The principal coordinator said there is no separate goal for children in the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) but the issue of children development, their rights and safety is included in every goal.

He was addressing a workshop on “Safety for Children to Attain Sustainable Development Goals: Role of Mass Media” at the seminar room of National Theater Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy here.

Children Affairs Journalists Network (CAJN) and World Vision Bangladesh arranged the workshop.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Kendriyo Khelaghar Asar Presidium Member Dr Lelin Chowdhury, Channel I Senior News Editor Mir Masrur Jaman Rony, World Vision Deputy Director Sabira Sultana Nupur and media relations specialist Debashish Ranjan Sarker joined the panel discussion in the workshop.

CAJN President and BSS Special Correspondent Mahfuza Jasmine presided over the function while CAJN Vice-President and Channel I Special Correspondent Mostafa Kamal Mallik moderated it.

World Vision Director Chandan Z Gomez and CAJN General Secretary Shipan Habib delivered the welcome addresses.

Journalists working on children affairs beat at different media took part in the workshop.

Principal coordinator Abul Kalam Azad said the government has taken initiatives to create scopes for Bangladeshis to receive higher education at home and abroad.

He said the government will provide Taka 60 lakh to receive masters degree and Taka 2 crore to attain PhD degree.

Azad said the topic of SDGs has been included in the textbooks of students from Class VIII to Class X.

He said the government is implementing a project to enhance skills in public administration and to impart higher training on SDGs to government employees and private service holders.

Mentioning the motto of SDGs ‘Leaving no one behind’, he underscored the need for participation of all the people to implement the SDGs.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad said families should play the key role for mental development of children.

He said mass media can play an important role to ensure safe environment for children.

The managing director of BSS called upon the media to maintain journalistic ethics and principles to portray positive issues before the people.

He urged the media to refrain from presenting any reports that can create panic in the mindset of children.
