DHAKA, Oct 25, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said Feni speedy trial tribunal’s judgement in madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case will remain as a milestone in establishing rule of law.

“This judgment would be marked as an example of getting rid of the culture of impunity in the country,” Anisul said in his reaction to the judgment at a press briefing at his Gulshan residence here this morning.

Law secretary Md Golam Sarwar and joint secretary Bikash Kumas Saha were present at the briefing, among others.

The law minister hoped that the appeal matter in Nusrat murder trial would be disposed of quickly at the High Court and the court would uphold exemplary punishment to the convicts.

Feni Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal on October 24 sentenced all 16 accused to death and fined them Taka one lakh each in the case lodged over murder of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

“We want to give a message that no matter how much powerful a criminal is – the government of Sheikh Hasina would certainly bring him or her to justice,” Anisul said.

“This government is committed to establish rule of law. The country has got rid of the culture of impunity as the Awami League government has brought the nation back to the culture of justice,” he added.

The case documents would come to High Court within seven working days since the pronouncement of judgment, the minister said, adding: “I hope the apex court would dispose of the matter quickly”.
