Interfaith harmony will reach Bangladesh to desired goal: Hassan

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Bangladesh has set a unique example of interfaith harmony as all of them shed their blood for the country’s independence and expected the nation to reach its desired destination with their combined efforts.

“The country will reach the destination we dream with the combined effort of the followers of all religious faiths,” he said.

The minister was addressing a huge gathering of Hindu devotees and visitors at a Puja Mandap arranged by Dhanmondi Sarbojanin Puja Uddjapan Committee in the city’s Kalabagan area this evening. Earlier, Dr Hasan visited the worship place.

“Our” flag with red and green colors earned at the cost of combined bloodshed of people of all faiths, including the Hindus, the Muslims, the Buddhists and the Christians, is the unique example of non-communalism, he said.

“Our first identity is that we are Bangali and then comes our religious identity. We have built a non-communal Bangladesh by thwarting the chain of communal state system. So, the country is for all of us,” Hasan, also AL publicity and publication secretary said.

Noting that religious festivals are now not confined to the people of respective religions, the minister said joy of releasing Fanush (paper balloons) in the sky marking the Probarona Purnima, the second biggest religious festival of the Buddhist community, has got universality.

The number of Puja Mondops has increased by three times in the last 11 years as people are enjoying full freedom and feeling safe in performing their respective religions and their economic condition has improved, he said, adding that there were 11,000 Puja Mandops in 2008 which increased to 31,398 this year.

According to the Hindu religion, Durga Devi comes to destroy all evil forces, Hasan said and expected that peace will be prevailing among all throughout the year accordingly.

Dhanmondi Sarbojanin Puja Uddjapan Committee President Amar Krishna Poddar, Vice-President Professor BK Saha and General Secretary Ashok Kumar Basu were present on the occasion, among others.
