Speaker stresses on human rights awareness

DHAKA, Oct 2, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today underscored the need for creating awareness about human rights among the citizens to avert human rights violations.

“The constitution of Bangladesh reserves the rights of a citizen. There is no scope to deprive anyone from their rights”, Dr Shirin said.

She made the remarks while Nasima Begum, the newly appointed chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) along with the commission members paid her a courtesy call-on at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office here.

She urged the NHRC to keep the human rights of the citizen elevated through their services and awareness.

She also congratulated the new NHRC chairman and hoped that the chairman and the commission members will sincerely perform their duties utilizing their experiences and skills.

The NHRC chairman informed the speaker about the commission’s first meeting after her appointment and asked for her help in fixing a budget to modernize the commission, build a new office and make recruitments.

The Speaker assured her of the highest cooperation from her side.

Newly appointed NHRC members- Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Dr Namita Halder, Jesmin Ara Begum, Mizanur Rahman Khan and Chinkiyo Rowaja were also present, among others, during the visit.
