Tourism Day observed in port city

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 27, 2019 (BSS) – The World Tourism Day-2019 was observed in
the city and its adjacent districts today through various programmes, aiming
to raise awareness among the people about the importance of tourism and its
social, cultural, political and economic values.

The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism and Jobs: A better
Future for All.”

Marking the day, the district administration and Bangladesh Parjatan
Corporation chalked out the elaborate programmes including bringing out
rally, arrangement of essay writing competition and prizes distribution to
the winners in city’s circuit house area in the morning.

The rally started from Chattogram circuit house area and ended at the same
venue after parading different important city streets.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Kamal Hossain, Acting Deputy
Commissioner of Chattogram Yesmin Parvin Tirbigi, Superintendent of district
Tourism Police Apel Mahmud, representatives from Bangladesh Parjatan
Corporation, a large number of people from all walks of life including
officials, social workers, students and teachers participated in the rally.

Later, a discussion on importance of marking tourism day was held at
Circuit house presided over by additional deputy commissioner.

The acting deputy Commissioner addressed the meeting as the chief guest.

Speaking at the function Yesmin Parvin Tirbigi said the present government
led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken initiatives to promote the
tourism industry of the country to attract natural, historical sites and
cultural activities to the foreign tourists.

Besides, four separate rallies were brought out from city’s GEC crossing
and Agrabad commercial areas at 11 am.

Hotel Well Park Residence, Hotel Peninsula and Hotel Agrabad also organised
different programmes, marking the day.

Meanwhile, a three day-long programme marking the World Tourism Day began
at Hotel Agrabad and hotel Radisson Blu Chattogram on Thursday.

Chief Executive of Hotel Agrabad HM Hakim Ali at a function at the hotel
urged the government to take steps for developing different spectacular sites
in Chattogram in order to developing the tourism industry here.

United Nations World Trade Organization (UNWTO) marks the ‘World Tourism Day’
on this day every year.
