DHAKA, Sept 26, 2019 (BSS) – The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) today adopted a resolution urging Myanmar to create conducive environment in northern Rakhine state and convince Rohingyas to return with full safety and dignity as per the bilateral agreement with Bangladesh.

The resolution was adopted by a vote of 37 in favour, two against and seven abstentions during the ongoing 42 regular session of the UNHRC in Geneva today, according to a press release of Bangladesh permanent mission in Geneva received here.

The resolution, brought by Bangladesh was finalized by all member counties of OIC and European Union, said the release.

The resolution laid emphasis on intensified investigation over all human rights violation and atrocities committed against Rohingyas in Myanmar for bringing perpetrators to justice under all national, regional and international criminal judicial system.

The UN also highly lauded the Bangladesh government for giving shelter to Rohingyas as well as urged the international community to be partner of Bangladesh for continuing humanitarian assistance until the displaced people are going back to their homeland.

During addressing the 42 session, Permanent Resident of Bangladesh mission in Geneva Ambassador Shamim Ahsan said this resolution will be a landmark to ensure accountability and justice against indescribable atrocities committed against Rohingyas.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had opened the border for forcefully displaced Rohingyas on humanitarian ground but Myanmar failed to create conducive environment inside Rakhine even after two years of the influx, he said.
