RAB seizes TK 5.5 crore, 730 tolas gold, 6 firearms in old city

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2019 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today seized around Taka 5.5 crore, gold weighing 730 tolas worth about Tk four crore and six firearms in separate raids at four flats of three houses at Sutrapur, Gandaria and Narinda in the capital.

Senior assistant director of RAB’S legal and media wing, Senior ASP Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan told BSS that a team of RAB-3 conducted the raids today as part of the ongoing drive against casinos, bars and corrupt individuals in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

He said based on a tip off about illegal wealth, the anti-crime elite force raided the houses of Enamul Haque Enu at Banianagar of Sutrapur and Rupon Bhuiyan at Mourgitola of Gandaria and Enu’s employee Abul Kalam at Lalmohon Saha Street of Narinda.

Commanding Officer of RAB-3 Lieutenant Colonel Shafiullah Bulbul told this news agency that Enamul and his brother Rupom are partners of the casino in Dhaka Wanderers’ Club at Motijheel area. Rupon was involved in money laundering.

A former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP, Enu is the vice president of Gandaria Thana unit of Awami League and Rupon Bhuiyan, also an ex-JCD leader and a joint general secretary of the AL’s Gandaria unit, the RAB official added.

None was, however, arrested in this connection, the CO added.
