110 companies fined for selling adulterated foods

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2019 (BSS) – As the part of authorities’ move to stop
selling adulterated food items and goods and free the consumers from clutches
of unscrupulous traders, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights
Protection recently fined 110 companies Taka 8,07,000.

The fine realized from more than 100 business establishments by carrying
out different drives in the capital and various divisions and districts
joined by as many as 45 officials of the Directorate of National Consumer
Rights Protection (DNCRP).

During the drives, DNCRP officials fined the capital’s Nando’s for mixing
contraband items in foods while Red Cabbage and Juicy Juice Bar were fined
for making food products at unhealthy places in Gulshan, Shahbag and Lalbag
areas.

They monitored 42 markets throughout the country and fined and realized 4
lakh 92 thousand 200 taka for making food products at unhealthy places,
selling goods without any MRP seal and expired foods, including medicine,
cheating with customers while weighing products, using banned ingredients in
foods and not showing any price list.

Besides, ten companies were fined on the basis of the written complaints
lodged by customers and 25 percent of the fine was paid to the complainants
immediately.

Among others, deputy commissioners, officials of district police, Armed
Police Battalion, Civil Surgeon Offices and representatives of local
administration were present during the drives.
