BCB president critical on players’ performance in one-off Test against Afghans

DHAKA, Sept 8, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon criticized the players’ performance in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, stating that they were not able to apply them properly.

He also questioned of not playing any pacer in the team and termed team’s strategy and plan as wrong.

He said that he expected Bangladesh would play in sporting wicket but was left surprised that the wicket played to the strength of Afghans spin attack.

“We have defeated them (Afghanistan) them in the World Cup playing in true wicket, where pacers get the advantage,” Papon told the reporters here on Sunday.

“But I am really surprised of not seeing any pacer in the team. I expected sporting pitch but was surprised to see other type of wicket. I don’t know who is behind the plan but whoever plans this it is wrong. I am actually surprised to see the team’s strategy and planning.”

Bangladesh are on the verge of losing the one-off Test, being reduced to 136-6 in the chase of an improbable target of 398 runs set by Afghanistan.

The BCB president also came down heavily on the players after the batting failure.

“Afghanistan really played better cricket. Their batsman hit century and half-century while we have no century. Mominul got 52 but played bad shot to be out whereas he is considered as Test specialist. Mahmudullah played really bad shot. My expectation is that Shakib, Mushfiqur or others would get a century but that didn’t happen.”
