Speaker seeks Canadian investment

DHAKA, Sept 8, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today called upon the Canadian Investors to invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zones.

“The present government established one hundred special economic zones across the country. Canada will help regarding investment in every way”, a press release quoted her saying that when Canadian Senator Marilou McPhedran paid her a courtesy call-on at her office.

She urged the Canadian government and urged the investors in Canada to invest in Bangladesh’s jute, pharmaceutical, garments, renewable energy, fuel and telecommunication sectors.

Dr Shirin described Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the initiator of the friendship between Bangladesh and Canada and said that the countries share a deep bond and old friendship, added the release.

She also said that the Rohingya Crisis is a problem related to humanity not only for Bangladesh alone but for every other countries of the world.

The Speaker said that the international communities must act fast and ensure safe deportation of Rohingyas.

Canadian Senator Marilou McPhedran said that Canada would like to strengthen the bilateral trade ties by investing in Bangladesh.

She also said that the Canadian government will stay beside Bangladesh in finding a peaceful solution to the Rohingya Crisis.

Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoit Pr,fontaine was also present, among others, during the meeting.
