Drive against drug peddlers to be continued: Home Minister

DHAKA, May 24, 2018 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the drive against illegal drugs peddlers would be continued as per the list prepared by law enforcement agencies.

“The government has already prepared a list of illegal drug traders and their patrons. None in the list will be spared,” he told newsmen while speaking as the chief guest at an inaugural ceremony of anti-drug campaign in the city’s Farmgate area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) organised the anti-drug campaign with its commissioner M Asaduzzaman Miah presiding. The DMP pasted stickers on different motor vehicles in the city with some slogans ‘avoid drugs, protect yourself and save next generation.’

Kamal, also a freedom fighter, joined the anti-drug campaign with pasting stickers for building awareness among mass people about illegal drugs and its harmful impact.

He said that members of the law enforcement agencies have been taking necessary measures against illegal drug traders as well as those who are involved in this regard.

The minister warned that the government adopted zero tolerance policy against illegal drugs and its abuse, adding, “The law enforcement agencies have been conducting drive against illegal drugs across the country following Prime Minister’s directive. We are always sincere about illegal drugs and our Prime Minister urged all strata of people to come against illegal drug abuse.”

Referring to security in the capital city, he said the DMP commissioner with his sincere efforts and efficient capacity successfully ensured security.

Kamal also urged all guardians and parents for taking special care of their family members alongside informing police about illegal drug trading.

The commissioner said police will not spare any drug traders and added, “The DMP is campaigning against drugs regularly. We arrested many drug traders and seized huge quantity of illegal drugs.”

He said, “We are ensuring tight security during the Ramadan.”
