Pakistani jailed in fake currency case

DHAKA, Sept 05, 2019 (BSS) – A special tribunal here today sentenced a Pakistani citizen to six years imprisonment in a case lodged over possessing fake Indian currency.

Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka 4th Special Tribunal passed the judgment in presence of convict Mohammed Imran. The tribunal after passing the judgment, sent the convict to jail.

According to the case documents, customs officials detained Imran at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and recovered 80 lakh fake Indian Rupee from his possession as he landed here from Doha on January 15, 2015.

Assistant revenue officer Md Mozammel Haque filed the case with Airport Police Station against Imran the next day.

Police on December 4, 2016, filed charge sheet in the case and the tribunal after examining four out of the total eight witnesses on different occasions, came up with the verdict today.
