Met office forecasts light to moderate rain

 DHAKA, May 23, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow.

It also may occur at a few places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at some places over the country said a BMD release here today.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period.

Westerly low lies over Bihar and adjoining area, extending its trough to North Bay across Gangetic west Bengal, the release said, adding that seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The BMD office, however, in a warning message said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary westerly or northwesterly gusty or squally wind speeding 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakahli, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet wherein river ports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius yesterday at Jashore and Chuadanga in Khulna division and today’s minimum temperature 23.8 degrees Celsius at Rangamati in Chattogram division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 62 mm in Mymensingh.

The sun sets at 6.38 pm today and rises at 5.12 am tomorrow in the capital.
