Govt takes zero tolerance policy against corruption: ACC chairman

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2019 (BSS) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud today said the government has taken zero tolerance policy against corruption.

“Because of the government’s firm stance, it becomes possible to take actions against anyone involved with corruption,” he told a session of the “Review of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption” in Vienna, Austria, said a press release here today.

Iqbal Mahmud said the ACC is carrying out mass hearing across the country to ensure transparency and accountability of government employees. It helps raise consciousness among people about corruption side by side with creating accountability of government employees, he added.

Mahmud said the ACC has formed 25 institutional teams to find out the areas of methodical corruption-irregularities in activities of 25 ministries and divisions.

Recommendations of those teams are being sent to concerned ministries or divisions to curb corruption, he said.

Mahmud said the ACC has formed Satata Sangha (integrity units) at 28,183 educational institutions across the country aimed at keeping away the future generation from corruption and nurturing honesty and ethics among the youth.

He said the commission has installed 3659 Satata Stores (integrity shops) at different secondary level educational institutions across the country with a view to increasing moral uprightness among schoolchildren.
