DSCC will remove animal waste within 24 hours: Khokon

DHAKA, Aug 7, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed
Khokon today said DSCC would dispose of the wastes of sacrificial animals
within 24 hours to keep the city clean and prevent environment pollution.

“The slaughter of sacrificial animals takes place mostly on the Eid day
after the Namaj. The wastes of that day will be cleaned within 24 hours”,
Khokon said while addressing an instructional meeting on management of the
wastes of sacrificial animals in the city.

Mentioning the success of removing wastes within 24 hours last year, Khokon
said a total of 339 spots, including 5 in every ward, have been designated in
the DSCC area for slaughtering sacrificial animals on the Eid day so that
wastages of animals could be managed properly.

“If it is not possible to use any of the designated spots, make sure that
you wash the area used for sacrificing animals with ample water and bleaching
powder …,” he added.

Khokon also said the dengue outbreak may worsen if the waste is not
managed properly.

He sought cooperation of city dwellers and urged them to collect wastes in
the bags that will be supplied by the city corporation.

He also urged all to keep them on specific spots so that the employees of
City Corporation can collect them.

The city dwellers can inform the call centre if they notice any animal
wastes anywhere in the city in the hotline number – 09611000999, he added.

DSCC’s Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Zahid Hasan
presided over the meeting.

Chief executive officer Mostafizur Rahman, ward councilors, senior
officials of DSCC and cleaners from each DSCC wards were present at the
meeting.

Earlier, the DSCC Mayor inaugurated a public awareness campaign in city’s
Doel Chattar area today urging all to ensure cleanliness around their
surroundings to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquitoes.
