Bourses closed mixed on Wednesday

DHAKA, Aug 07, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed flat today amid choppy trading.

The market started with upward vibe, but did not sustain as investors opted to take some profit from their port folio ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Besides, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed in red.

DSE’s core index closed at 5,187.2 points with a marginal loss of 0.1 points. The Shariah index, DSES also declined slightly by 4.37 points at 1189.97 and the blue chips, DS30 rose by 0.546 points to stand at 1836.99.

In DSE, a total of 12.94 crore shares and mutual funds of 353 companies were traded, of which 111 issues advanced while 206 issues declined and 36 issues remained unchanged.

The market turnover decreased and stood at Taka 4.5 billion by the end of the session which is 21 percent lower than Tuesday.

According to a market operator, EBL Securities, investors exerted selling pressure on sector specific stocks especially from Engineering, Food and Allied and Textile sectors.

Sector wise performance exposed that Telecommunication (1.7%), Bank(1.3%) and Services and Real Estate(0.9%) sector experienced the highest price appreciation while Jute(-5.6%), Mutual Fund (-2.4%) and Textile(-1.7%) sector experienced the highest price correction.

Investors’ attention was mostly concentrated on Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals (16.4%), Engineering (13.3%) and Fuel and Power (11.3%) sectors.

The top ten gainers were ICBAMCL 2nd Mutual Fund, JMI Syringers and Medical Devices Limited, Rupali Bank, MIDAS Financing, Dhaka Insurance, Prime Bank 1st ICB AMCL Mutual Fund, ACI, Pragati Insurance, Bangladesh Finance and Investment, and Shahjalal Islami Bank.

Besides, the top ten losers were SEML FBLSL Growth Fund, Bangladesh Welding, Tallu Spinning, GP, United Insurance, MAKSON Spinning, Eastern Lubricants, Tosrifa Industries, Karnaphuli Insurance and Emerald Oil.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, CSE closed in red zone today. CSCX & CASPI decreased by 12.6 and 20.9 points respectively to stand at 9633.67 and 15852.05.

In CSE, a total of 74.42 lakh shares of 251 companies traded, of which 72 issues advanced while 154 issues declined and 25 remained unchanged.
