DHAKA, August 7, 2019 (BSS) – In a bid to make themselves part of the next year’s World T20 in Australia in 2020, Bangladesh Women’s team chalked out a roadmap as they have to qualify for the tournament first.

The qualifying round will be held in Scotland in coming September and this year Bangladesh Women’s would get a tough team like Ireland which knows the Scottish condition better than them. The two finalists from the qualifying round however will make it to the World T20.

To acclimatize to the condition, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged a 10-day long camp for the female cricketers in Netherlands, where they will play four practice matches.

Before flying to Scotland via Netherlands, Bangladesh Women’s team will have a practice camp at the country too, which will begin this week.

BCB’s women’s cricket wing development manager Nazmul Abedin Fahim believed that the Bangladesh female cricketer is favourites to make the World T20 by overcoming the qualifying round barrier.

Fahim added that BCB has arranged the 10-day camp in Netherlands as extra boost for the players.

“From September 27, the qualifying round for the next T20 World Cup will start. Two teams will make the cut and I believe Bangladesh has the ability to be in the top two in qualifying round,” Fahim said here on Wednesday.

“There will be a preparation camp for 10 days in Netherland. We will play four practice matches in Netherland then we will travel to Scotland, that’s our program.

Before that, the national team and A team….. Actually, the whole team traveled to South Africa. A team played their match and other players were in the training. Now all are here and there will be a training camp from the next day for 4-5 days.

There is a gym session; a net session and they will play two practice matches in BKSP against the Dhaka Metro U-16 team. So, that’s their program for the near future,” Fahim elaborated the plan.

Though there was some fitness concern of some players including ODI captain Rumana Ahmed, Fahim is hopeful to get all fit before the camp.

“We have fitness concerns over some players. So, after taking the fitness test tomorrow we will be able to let you know that what will be the team. Hopefully, tomorrow we will know what will be our 14 member squad and we will be able to announce that day after tomorrow.”

Bangladesh put up an abysmal performance in 2018 World T20 in West Indies, losing all of the four matches in the group phase, despite coming off the tournament as Asia Cup champions. Fahim said they are this year careful of avoiding such shamble.

“It’s unfortunate that we played so badly in the last tournament despite being the Asia Cup champions.

We hoped to play a little bit later and get our ranking higher up the table. We had the opportunity to climb up the ladder and if we could have done that then we might not have to play in the qualifying round this year.

It’s a bit disappointing, players have acknowledged that management and coaching staffs have also acknowledged that. And we will try to give our everything and will try to play to our potential if we get a chance to play in the World cup this time.”

Fahim also revealed that they started work to produce players keeping the World T20 in mind last year and it paid the dividends as they got enough players in the pipeline.
