Rumour issue:

About spread of rumour, the prime minister said she had already talked to her party leaders and workers, while steps have been taken by the government so that none can spread rumours.

“I urged them not to pay heed to rumours and not to take laws in their own hands … if you suspect anybody, hand over him or her to the police,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said a number of people involved in spreading rumours were arrested and after that, the situation is now under control. The prime minister said the police are taking actions immediately against the culprits. “Is it believable in this era that human heads and blood are needed for constructing the Padma bridge and those spreading this rumour are criminals … we must take action against them,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said there was a conspiracy from the beginning of the construction of the Padma bridge. “We have to find out the culprits and in which intention they are spreading this rumour,” she said.

Last elections:

On a question about the last general elections, the prime minister said her government could not stay in power if the last elections were not held freely.

Replying to a question about cent percent vote casting at some polling centres, Sheikh Hasina said there are tribunals and the aggrieved can file case with the tribunals or lodge complaints with the Election Commission.

“If such incidents took place, then the EC will take action … we’re not making any interference in this regard,” she said.

The premier continued: “The people would have waged movement and we could not stay in power, if they could not cast votes.”
