Two new trains on Rangpur-Dhaka route next month: Sujan

RANGPUR, Aug 2, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan today said two more intercity trains will begin plying on the Rangpur-Dhaka route from the beginning of the next month of September.

“Currently, only one intercity train is running on the route. It is failing to meet demand of the people of Rangpur for their train journey to Dhaka,” the minister said while talking to local people during his sudden visit to Rangpur Rail Station in the city this afternoon.

“Bangladesh Railway is preparing to commission two more intercity trains on the route. One will run directly from Rangpur to Dhaka via Syedpur and another from Kurigram to Dhaka via Rangpur city from the next month,” he said.

The minister said the government will modernise Rangpur Rail Station in a time-befitting manner in accordance with the growing importance of Rangpur divisional city.

“The quantity and quality of passenger services at Rangpur Rail Station will be enhanced through its modernisation,” he said, adding that the divisional city of Rangpur will be decorated and beautified like other modern cities of the country.

Sujan said multi-purpose development projects have been taken to modernise the railway communication networks as safe, affordable and low-cost transportation to reach railway communication system at the people’s doorsteps across the country.

The minister visited different sections, facilities and areas at Rangpur Rail Station and answered various questions asked by local journalists.

Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan, Acting President of Rangpur district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mondal, Rangpur Rail Station Superintendent Mozammel Haque, among others, were present.
