Two siblings electrocuted in Kaliganj
RANGPUR, July 31, 2019 (BSS) – Two siblings were electrocuted to death
near a canal in village Nithok Thingirpar of Cholbola union in Kaliganj
upazila of Lalmonirhat district this evening, police said.
“The deceased were identified as Mafizul Islam, 18, and his younger
brother Shakil Islam, 15, sons of Abdul Gafur of the same village,” Officer-
in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Thana Sajjad Hossain told BSS tonight.
Mafizul was a second year intermediate student at nearby Chaparhat
Degree College and Shakil was studying in class nine at Shialkhowa School and
College in Kaliganj upazila.
“The tragic incident occurred while Mafizul was trying to get
electricity connection from a nearby area and electrocuted after coming in
touch with an electrified cable there at 6:30 pm,” the OC said.
Getting information, Shakil rushed to the spot immediately from their
nearby house to rescue his elder brother and also electrocuted while saving
his brother.
“None filed any complain in this connection with Kaliganj police
station,” the OC told BSS at 8 pm.
