Editors for setting up research cell on dengue

DHAKA, July 29, 2019 (BSS) – Editors of vernacular dailies and online news portals today stressed the need for setting up a research cell on dengue disease, saying that citizens have a strong role in checking mosquito menace.

“Small insects -mosquitoes – have shaken the world. We must win against them….if all play their respective roles, it would be easy for us,” Protidiner Sangbad editor Rahat Khan told a view-exchange meeting with Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Md Atiqul Islam here.

Daily Observer editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury put emphasis on setting up a research cell on dengue and Chikungunya.

Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Naem Nizam said media will extend all-out support to the city corporations to create awareness about dengue, but ward councilors must be accountable to this end.

Noting that the government should work on prevention of dengue round-the-year, Daily Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta said: “We should take lesson from our neighbouring countries on how they tackle dengue prevalence”.

Daily Sun editor Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Banik Barta editor Dewan Hanif Mahmud, Samakal acting editor Mustafiz Shafi, sarabangla.net editor Syed Ishtiaque Reza and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha chief news editor Anisur Rahman were, among others, present.
