Major rivers cross danger level at 20 more points across country

DHAKA, July 22, 2019 (BSS) – Major rivers crossed danger marks at 20
more points across the country as all the four of the country’s major basins
continued to rise due to incessant downpours and onrush of water from
upstream, according to a bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre
(FFWC) issued here today.

Water levels at 34 river stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and
Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked rise while 56 stations recorded fall.

All the major rivers of the country are in falling trend except the
Surma-Kushiyara and the rivers around the Dhaka city, it said adding Teesta
River at Dalia point and Dharala River at Kurigram point may rise abruptly
and exceed danger level in the next 24 hours

Among the 93 monitored stations, water level at three river stations
have been registered steady while water levels at 20 river stations are
flowing above danger level, the bulletin added.

The Surma at Kanaighat and Sunamganj, the Kushiyara at Amalshi, Sheola
and at Sherpur- Sylhet, the Titas at B.Baria, the Meghna at Chandpur, the
Ghagot at Gaibandha, the Brahmaputra at Chilmari, the Jamuna at Fulchari,
Bahadurabad, Sariakandi, Kazipur, Serajganj and Aricha, the Atrai at
Baghabari, the Dhaleswari at Elasin, the Old Brahmaputra at Jamalpur, the
Padma at Goalundo and Bhagyakul are flowing above danger level 20cm, 14cm,
6cm, 6cm, 25cm, 23cm, 12cm, 36cm, 32cm, 68cm, 32cm, 71cm, 55cm, 55cm, 51cm,
27cm, 75cm, 86cm, 6cm 58cm and 26 respectively.
