One water source for every 50 people soon: Ranga

 DHAKA, May 5, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga today said at least one water source will be set up for every 50 people in the country soon.

“Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) will set up at least one source of water for every 50 people at a cost of Taka 10,000 crore,” he said, speaking at a discussion at the conference room of the daily Ittefaq here.

Dorp, a volunteer organization, organized the pre-budget discussion marking Sustainable Development Goal-6 with daily Ittefaq News Editor Maloy Pare in the chair.

Lawmaker Nurjahan Begum Mukta, Dorp founder AHM Noman, researchers Mahfuj Kabir, Md Azhar Ali Talukder, Professor Hamidul Haque, Professor Rumana Haque and Alak Kumar Majumder, among others, addressed the discussion.

Ranga said the DPHE is implementing a project of water supply through pipes in 159 municipalities worth Taka 800 crore. Besides, the DPHE will take another project worth Taka 2,000 crore to reduce the risk of arsenic, he added.

He said the Dhaka WASA is producing 242 crore liters of water against the daily demand of 235 crore liters in the city.

The state minister said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking and implementing different projects to mitigate the demand of water.

He said the government is very much cordial to implement the SDG-6 properly.
