Bangladesh lose to Thailand in Indoor Asia Cup Hockey

DHAKA, July 18, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh national hockey team suffered a 1-3 goal defeat to host Thailand in their fourth and last pool A match of the Indoor Asia Cup held on Thursday in Chonburi, Thailand.

Bangladesh took to the field today with a huge confidence following their 9-0 win over the Philippines but they trailed 2-0 goals at the breather.

Bangladesh however offered some resistances to pull one back in the second half but they had to leave the field with defeat.

With the day’s defeat, Bangladesh now placed at fourth position in the points table with three points and if stay in their current position after the end of group phase matches scheduled to be held tomorrow (Friday), the boys in red and green will have to play the seventh place deciding match.

In the day’s match, Kampanthong scored a brace in the 6th and 34th minutes for Thailand while Boonpea supported him with a lone goal in the 3rd minute.

Mainul Islam Koushik scored the lone goal for Bangladesh in the 36th minute of the match.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost to Malaysia 6-0 in their group opening match and suffered 8-0 defeat to defending champions Iran in their second match before bounced back to register an overwhelming 9-0 drubbing over Philippines in their third group match.

For the first time ever there are 11 teams taking part in the tournament which is the highest amount of competing teams ever with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and the Philippines have made their debuts.

Bangladesh have been grouped in Pool A along with defending champions Iran, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand while the Pool B consist with Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore and Uzbekistan.

Bangladesh squad : Asim Gope (GK), Abu Sayed Nippon (GK), Imran Hassan Pintu, Rashel Mahmud Jimy, Ashraful Islam, Khorshedur Rahman, Farhad Ahmed Shitul, Fazle Hossain Rabbi, Sarwar Hossain, Mainul Islam Kowshik, Milon Hossain and Rumman Sarkar.
