Multi-client deep sea survey to be strengthened: Nasrul

DHAKA, May 3, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said the government will strengthen multi-client seismic survey in the country’s offshore areas in the Bay of Bengal for exploring natural resources.

“Conducting a multi-client survey to explore offshore resources has been delayed due to various causes,” he told a seminar on ‘LNG Import: Opportunities & Challenges’ organised by Forums for Energy Reporters Bangladesh (FERB) at Dhaka Club here.

Chaired by FERB chairman Arun Karmaker, the seminar was addressed, among others, by energy experts Prof Dr M Tamim, Saleque Sufi and Prof Shamsul Alam.

Speaking at the seminar, Nasrul said the offshore blocks will be brought under the multi-client survey and the government has been working to set up the best refinery apart from Single Point Mooring (SPM).

He said the government will establish a Power Management Institute for building capacity of officials and engineers in the power sector.

“We will ensure mix-fuel for consumers’ option to select their fuel. Even, the government is working to ensure LNG, LPG, Oil, electric recharging points as the world is now enter electric vehicles,” he said.

The state minister assured that prepaid metre would be installed at consumer level across the country and gas would be available for industries as LNG is being imported.

He urged industrialists to shift their factories at industrial zones since the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh, has set up many economic zones in the country.

Nasrul said power generation has reached over 16,000 MW and more electricity will be added to the national grid this year.

“The government has appointed a renowned consultant firm for need assessment in the power sector as we need more capable human resources for operating and maintaining modern equipment,” he said.
