India’s defeat in ICC world cup semifinal “disappoints” millions

NEW DELHI, July 11, 2019 (BSS) – Like millions of Indian cricket fans, cross sections of people including political high-ups, professionals and businessmen expressed “disappointment” over the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal results in Manchester on Wednesday.

Mainstream Indian media carried out number of reports and articles on yesterday’s match between India and New Zealand with analysis about the fall of India’s three top order batsmen within 10 runs.

The fall of major wickets of Indian team and decent bowling of New Zealand’s bowler mainly expedited defeat of Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s team, media report said here today.

India’s loss against New Zealand brought the curtains down on the two-time World Cup holders’ in 2019 campaign.

After the match, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet message expressed disappointed over the result. “A disappointing result, but good to see #Team India’s fighting spirit till the very end,” he wrote.

Modi said, “India batted, bowled, fielded well throughout the tournament, of which we are very proud. Wins and losses are a part of life,” he said and wished to the team for their future endeavours.

Ex-Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a tweet message said the Indian team deserves love and respect for putting up a great fight against New Zealand.

“Though they’re a billion broken hearts tonight, Team India, you put up a great fight and are deserving of our love and respect,” he wrote.

He congratulated New Zealand on their well earned win, that gives them a place in the World Cup final.

After the loss, Indian captain Virat Kohli tweeted, thanking fans for their support. Kohli, in his message to the fans, said that “we gave everything we had” and “share the same emotions as you”. “You feel bad for the result. Everyone goes out to win the match and when it doesn’t happen, you feel sad. We’re sad but not devastated,” Virat Kohli said at the post-match press conference.

Besides, millions of cricket fans are now active in social media to share their feelings as well as for analyzing the causes of India team’s defeat against New Zealand despite having a number of world class batsmen in the team.

“It is totally disappointing the performance which showed by the Indian team yesterday…fall of world class wickets so quickly defiantly disappointing,” said Aakyb (one name), an Uber driver.

However, Sunil Kumar, a medical practitioner in New Delhi while expressing his disappointment over the results in ICC semifinals 2019 said, “We are speechless how it happens”.

But, he thanked New Zealand’s players especially the bowlers for their good bowling in yesterday’s match.

Apart from Aakib and Sunil, there are so many people who expressed their disappointment with this correspondent for the ouster of Indian team from the ICC cricket world cup 2019 following its defeat in the semifinals with New Zealand.

India crashed out of the World Cup after suffering a heart-breaking 18-run loss to New Zealand in the first semifinal at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday.

The match went on for two days after rain affected the proceedings on Tuesday. Chasing a competitive total of 240 in 50 overs on a slow wicket, India were bowled out for 221 in 49.3 overs.
