MV Banglar Joy Jatra to be launched tomorrow in Jiangsu

 DHAKA, April 23, 2018 (BSS) – A newly built ship ‘MV Banglar Joy Jatra’ for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is ready for launching and naming tomorrow in Jiangsu, China.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan leading a five-member delegation left here last night for China to join the launching and naming ceremony of the newly procured ship, according to an official release issued today.

China National Machineries Import and Export Corporation (CMC) built the ship having a 39,000-tonne capacity, which is expected to join the BSC fleet on July 5 this year.

The CMC has been awarded the contract to build six ships for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation at a cost of Taka 1,843 crore. Of the total cost, the Chinese government is giving Taka 1,448 crore, while BSC Taka 395 crore, the release said.

Out of the rest five ships, four ships would join the BSC fleet this year, while the last one would be added next year. Each ship will have 39,000 tonnes capacity. The six ships – three oil tankers and three bulk carriers – will be added in the BSC fleet.
