DHAKA, June 27, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar stressed on the requirements of devising a good strategy and execute it properly to beat India in the side’s upcoming World Cup match on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

He believed that if they can play methodical cricket and plug their own loopholes, they can come out as winner even though the Tigers didn’t win any match against India in any format since their landmark bilateral series victory at home in 2015.

Bangladesh however came agonizingly close on three occasions however in the last two years but unfortunately ended up losing the match in the last ball.

In last year itself they are on the verge of beating India twice before losing the match due to technical and mental glitch.

But Soumya seemed not to be interested what happened in the past, rather he wants to live in the present and he also looked not interested to think about what difference lies between the two teams that could be a factor of winning or losing the match.

“What’s the main difference is that they are India and we are Bangladesh,” he replied casually when he was asked about the difference between the two sides.

“Those who will play well in the ground, they will come up as winner. It’s a big tournament. If you think about the name and fame of a team, you will be in back foot from the very beginning.”

“So we are not interested to think how big team they are. We have to plan well, execute it well. In which area we are weak, we have to sort it out and plug it. If we could execute our plan well and play well in all three departments, we will definitely win against India.”

India’s bowling department however is termed as the best amongst all other teams in this tournament. Knowing that well, Soumya believes methodical cricket could help them overcome India bowling threat. He said it’s important to pick up the weak link of India’s bowling on particular day.

“They have No.1 bowler at their disposal. They have high standard spinners. So we have to decide who to pick and who has off day on that particular day. Picking a bowler is important. So it is imperative who we are picking and from whom we want to survive us. It’s a plan that should be devised well and executed well in the match,” he said.

Since India possessed good pace and spin bowling department, Soumya said wicket will depend which sort of bowler could be dangerous for them.

“It depends on wicket. If it is fresh wicket, pace bowler can be threatening. And if it is used wicket, spin bowlers can be dangerous.”
