Abahani’s goal feast against Nepalese club
DHAKA, June 19, 2019 (BSS)-Abahani Limited went on a goal feast as they dumped Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal by 5-0 goals in their group E home match of the AFC Cup held on Wednesday at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
In the day’s proceeding, Abahani dominated all through the match and took a 2-0 goal lead before the breather. It was also the highest margin of victory for Abahani in their AFC Cup campaign.
In the day’s match, Nabib Newaj Jibon opened the account for Abahani scoring the first goal early in the 11th minute while foreign recruit Kervens Fils Belfort doubled the lead in the injury time of the first half.
After the resumption, midfielder Jewel Rana scored the third goal for Dhanmondi outfit in the 63rd minute utilizing a cross from Sohel Rana while Nigerian recruit Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu further widened the team’s margin scoring the fourth goal for Abahani in the 75th minute.
Midfielder Mamunul Islam Mamun completed the winners’ tally scoring the fifth goal for the sky blues a few seconds before the long whistle.
With this win, Abahani moved to the top of the table in Group E with ten points from five matches while bottom-ranked Manang Marshyangdi Club remained at their previous level.
Indian Super League champion Chennaiyin FC stand at second position with eight points from five outings. Dhaka Abahani will play their last away match against Minerva Punjab of India on June 26 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The Group champion will qualify to the knock out stage. In that case Abahani only need a draw in their last match to go to the knock out stage.
Earlier, the sky blues beat the Nepalese outfit 1-0 in their away match.
