Tk 1,496 crore proposed for environment ministry

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 13, 2019 (BSS) – The government has allocated Tk 1,496 crore for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in the proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20, which was Tk 1,340 crore in the revised budget of fiscal 2018-19.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the allocation while placing the budget for fiscal 2019-20 in parliament here today.

In the proposed allocation, the operating budget is Tk 820 crore while development budget Tk 676 crore.

In his budget speech, Kamal said the government has formulated the ‘National Environment Policy 2018’ to ensure sustainable development through the protection of environment, containing pollution, protection of biodiversity and tackling the adverse impact of climate.

He said it has allocated tasks among different ministries and departments to ensure their implementation.

Steps have been taken to conduct research for projection of sea level rise in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and its impact on agriculture, water resources and infrastructure, the finance minister said.

He said the government has enacted Brick Making and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2019 to reduce air pollution.
